Squid Game Season 2 trailer: Gi-hun returns to start a rebellion, stop the menace.

The deadly games are back, but this time with a twist. The second season of Squid Game unveiled its first trailer on Thursday, and this time, Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun wants nothing more than to stop the menace of the games. In the trailer, we see him playing Red Light, Green Light with a new bunch of contestants and despite his coaching, more people die. At the end of the first season, he won the contest but was guilty about the death of all his friends. It looks like he has now returned to the games so that he can put an end to the violence.

This time around, the contestants have the option of exiting the game if they wish to, but it looks like Seong Gi-hun won’t be able to convince many to choose that path. The organisers of the game, who observe the contestants every step of the way, are on to him as he tries to start a rebellion.

The Korean show became a massive global hit soon after its release in 2021. Such was the success that Netflix commissioned a reality show where contestants had to participate in games featured on the show. Season 2 was announced shortly after the first season’s success.

Creator-director Hwang Dong-hyuk, at a recent promotional event in Italy, spoke about the second season to Reuters. He said, “In Season Two, Gi-hun (played by Lee), who survived Season One, returns to the games, not to win this time around, but to put an end to these games. There is going to be a larger number of characters this time and more intriguing games that are all worthy of a lot of the viewers’ love and support. Gi-hun is a very different person in Season Two. This time around he wants revenge. He wants to catch the people behind the games and he wants to bring them to justice.”

Squid Game Season 2 starts streaming on December 26.
